German dike break forms potential risk to eastern part of The Netherlands

Published on:

The Netherlands are highly dependent on German  flood protection measurements.  If in Germany f.i.  the dikes of the Rhine River are not properly conditioned, it is useless to reinforce the dikes in the adjacent Dutch area. This is shown by recent figures from the Dutch Water Board Authority Rijn & IJssel. If a dike breaks in the border area, the eastern part of the Netherlands will flood. Damages  increasing to billions of Euros will be suffered, not to mention all the victims. German and Dutch water managers will discuss the German flood plan in Rees (G) next week.
